Biography

Eric Price is a lyricist and librettist whose work Broadway World calls “essential listening for any true musical theatre fan” and Talkin’ Broadway describes as the “hope for well-made songs in the post-Sondheim world.”

He has written the lyrics and book for The Violet HourRadioactivePresto Change-oHello Out There, Around the WorldThe Sixth Borough, Emma, and contributed additional material for Clue, which has toured the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and is produced worldwide. He was also a songwriter on the Apple TV+ series Central Park.

With his longtime collaborator Will Reynolds, Eric won the Fred Ebb Award for Musical Theatre Writing and a Dramatists Guild Musical Theatre Fellowship. A portion of their work papers is permanently housed in a Special Collection in the Music Division of The Library of Congress. Together, they run Flowerpot Tree Productions, the music publishing and production company for their writing.

The all-star studio cast album of The Violet Hour has received millions of streams, inspired the companion documentary Moment to Moment, and was named Best Cast Recording of the Year by the Broadway Radio Show. A world premiere production is in development.

For many years, Eric was the assistant to Broadway icon Hal Prince and worked with him over the course of twelve years on the development of new musicals that premiered in New York, Chicago, Washington DC, London, and Tokyo.

Eric received an MFA from NYU and is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Recording Academy, and the Lincoln Center Theatre Directors Lab.

In addition to his work as a writer, Eric is a professor of musical theatre at Pace University and Molloy University/CAP21.

Eric is currently producing two albums: Getting Closer: The Songs of Reynolds & Price, an album with the 62-piece Budapest Scoring Orchestra and a cast of Broadway stars and a studio cast recording of highlights from Presto Change-o.

He is currently writing a new musical with Will Reynolds entitled Double or Nothing.

Eric is represented by WME and lives in New York City with his wife Libby and daughter Josephine.
