Presto Change-o is a new musical about a family of stage magicians—three generations of illusionists—forced to share a roof, a past, and a lifetime of secrets.

Brilliant, volatile, and bound by a shared craft, the Presto family has spent years perfecting misdirection, onstage and off. As old betrayals resurface and long-buried truths refuse to stay hidden, they are forced to confront the fragile line between truth and illusion at last.

At the center is the family’s aging patriarch, a master sleight-of-hand conjurer who has begun to believe that he might be capable of real magic.

Whether this belief is delusion or discovery becomes the question that challenges a group of magicians who are trained never to be fooled. And, all the while, the fractured family is in the midst of a real life magic trick designed to restore something which had disappeared long ago.

By turns hilarious and deeply moving, Presto Change-o is a musical about inheritance, wonder, and the power of belief. It’s a story where broken things that have vanished may yet find a way to reappear, astonishingly whole again.

The show was commissioned by Tony Award-winner William Finn and Barrington Stage Company where a developmental production was produced.
